Michael Jackson
The life of an era

In life if you live long enough, you get to experience a fair number of those "where were you when...." moments. Well today is one of those days.

Michael Jackson, king of pop, greatest artist of all time allegedly fell into a coma and died tonight of a suspected heart attack. Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine told reporters: "My brother, the legendary King of Pop, passed away on Thursday June 25 at 2.26pm

I am very familiar with the concept of death but as you may have read from me before - no matter how many times I meet it - confronted by the face and finality of death, I'm confounded. It goes without saying that Michael Jackson has touched billions of lives - mine included - as a young child my first taste of performance was dancing on stage to Black or White at a talent show with my friend. His music, moved us, brought us together and challenged us to be better, to love more and to give more and despite his controversial past; through his music, he championed a vision of a brighter future for us all. When I got home at 3:00 am, EVERY mainstream station was playing rolling tributes to the man that transcended race, religion and culture.

I saw this one MJ fan, defiantly paying tribute.

The life and death of Michael Jackson is going to be undoubtedly one of the most influential, potent and monumental stories ever told in human history. I'm a shocked, sad and unsettled by the thought of him no longer being with us, but I am infinitely grateful and thankful for the gift he shared.

August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

Sleep in heavenly peace.

Let us remember the love, the warmth and the joy he brought us.

There is only one.....Michael Jackson.

Without him, there would be a very, very different me.
